“In all my wildest dreams I could never imagine that one day a race would be named after me… and, moreover, for that race to be at the legendary Curragh racecourse,” said the 'New Avengers' actress.

“ I am thrilled and proud in equal measure and cannot wait for this fabulous day to arrive. My gratitude can’t be measured, except by saying all the heavy horses in Ireland would have to be harnessed to pull the carriage bearing my thanks and delight.”

The Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival takes place at the Curragh on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May, which is also Ladies Day.

An exhibition celebrating Lester Piggot, featuring memorabilia from his racing career, will be on display at the course during the festival.
