Newbridge Credit Union hosted the official launch of Newbridge in Bloom 2013 last Tuesday, May 28.
The initiative, run by Newbridge Tidy Towns and sponsored by the Credit Union, aims to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere to the town’s commercial centre. It is now in its ninth year.
“In doing so we hope to attract visitors to Newbridge who will in turn support the various businesses in the town,” said PRO Deaglan de Paor.
“The success of Newbridge in Bloom depends largely on creating an instant visual impact by positioning pre-filled planters and railing baskets in carefully selected locations throughout the town.”
The Tidy Towns Association thanked the KARE volunteers, who have undertaken once again to “deadhead” the flower display, which is critical to the success of the venture. The floral display is designed and prepared by local horticulturist Jer Delaney of Gardens to Groom.
“Jer puts a lot of thought into the design of Newbridge in Bloom, it is a mammoth task to prepare 180 flower planters, and have them ready to position on the streets of Newbridge over such a short timeframe,” added Mr De Paor.
Judging in the National Tidy Towns Competition commences on the 1st June, and Newbridge can expect a visit from the adjudicator any time in June or July.
