An advanced swimming course - known as Total Immersion Swimming is to be hosted in the Maldron Hotel, Portlaoise, on February 20 (6.30pm-8.30pm).
The seminar will be led by American swimming coach Terry Laughlin, who has trained Olympic Games swimmers.
It’s being hosted by Melissa Duncan who previously worked for Kildare County Council and taught aqua aerobics in Naas and Athy as well as aerobics, step aerobics, swiss ball and spinning classes in the Newbridge leisure centre.
She also ran the first Naas triathlon and designed Kildare County Council’s triathlon logo as well a helping to launch the Naas Wheelworx Tri Club in 2004.
Ms Duncan is also a Swim Ireland swimming coach and the only Total Immersion Swimming Coach in the country.
“Traditional Swimming would focus on pulling and kicking to get you through the water. Total Immersion swimming uses your core balance and fluid movements to propel you through the water,” she said.
Ms. Duncan has set up a Swim Studio in Stradbally Co. Laois which consists of an “endless pool” with a 4 way camera system recording both under and over water, providing analysis for the beginner or elite swimmer to use to alter their stroke. Ms. Duncan can be contacted on 085-7126419 (www.theswimstudio.ie ).
