Tournament tribute to Celbridge drowning victim Abby

A penalty shootout decided the CelbridgeCommunity Summer Cup 2013 Final between Shacktar Senseless and ABCDE FC in Ballyoulster A.F.C.

But paramount at the event was the memory of Abby Adefabi, the teenager who tragically drowned in an accident at Castletown last month. The teenager’s team, ABCDE FC, contested the final. The theme of mental illness was also highlighted with Pieta House and ReachOut.com present on the day.

After a rain soaked delay, Senseless led 3-1 at half time with three goals from John Costello, Dylan Kavanagh netting for ABCDE’s.

Seadna McGrillen making it 3-2 with 30 mins to play and Kavanagh equalised.

With the sides level at 3-3 after extra time, Senseless won on penalities.

Mark Crickely, manager of ABCDE FC said.” We really couldn’t have done more. e paid a fitting tribute to our close friend Abby.”

Organisers, Gerard Dunleavy and Kenneth Kinsella, thanked everyone for their support. Dublin Community Television will include the match in their “CityWide” show on UPC channel 802. Highlights are also available on www.leinsterleader.ie.

The number 7 jersey, which Abbey Adefabi would have worn in the final was signed and framed along with a Ballyoulster jersey of his, the pair of framed jerseys are on displayed on the wall in the Ballyoulster A.F.C. clubhouse.
