Funds raised by son of founder for Michael Garry House

Michael Garry House, in Eyre Street, Newbridge, were the recent recipients of a presentation of a cheque for €5,634 from Michael Garry, whose father founded the facility in December 1997.

Michael Garry House, in Eyre Street, Newbridge, were the recent recipients of a presentation of a cheque for €5,634 from Michael Garry, whose father founded the facility in December 1997.

The cheque was presented to Tim Gallagher, President of St Christopher’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul. It was the proceeds of a fund-raising effort organised by Mr Garry, which centered around the Kildare marathon, half marathon, and the Kildare 10k races which took place last May.

The fund-raisers were comprised of a group of Mr Garry’s work colleagues from AIB Naas, some family members and friends.

These included Ciaran Garry, Kevin Tiernan, Dermot Coates, Patrick Coates, Michael Malone, and AIB staff members, Amanda Beere, Carol Flood, Katherine Reilly, Kathy Whittaker, Grace Furlong, and Michelle Quinn.

The group were also helped in their efforts with a donation from John Eyre Flowers, who raised some €850 at their open day auction.

Michael, who two weeks earlier underwent surgery for an appendix procedure, has vowed to “raise the bar next year, despite the recessionary times, and aim for €10,000”.

Conference President Tim Gallagher said that while the present facility is now an all male one, female requirements are also being met at a different facility and still under the auspices of Michael Garrye thanked all involved for their sterling efforts and congratulated the staff and volunteers on their dedication and hard work.Michael Garry House, is a 14 bed short-stay night shelter for those in need of emergency accomodation. Michael Garry House is run by St Christopher’s Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
