Florida based Kevin urges Irish abroad to help out

Kildare man's homeless video has 16,000 views

A Kildare Town’s man’s video about homelessness has
attracted 16,000 views to date on Facebook.

Kevin Donohoe’s plea to help the homeless in Ireland has attracted views and emails from all over the world urging people to support the Simon Community and Focus Ireland.

Kevin who lives in Florida with his wife Diane from Monasterevin and his two children Grace and Kevin Junior (JR) is thrilled with the response.

The Leader first ran the story Christmas week when there were just over 4,000 views. At the time Kevin said he did not expect that reaction.

“Even if only half of those likes donate $2 for homeless charities like the Simon Community or Focus Ireland then that will be a big spike for them and there might be a few less homeless for Christmas. Shortly afterwards the figures shot up to over 10,00 views.

“The video is over 10,000 views and I am still getting emails from all over the world,” he said.

Kevin was inspired to make the video last month after he heard that there were 1,571 homeless children in Ireland.

The Bishopsland native in his video urged all Irish ex-pats living abroad to donate the price of a pint online to help the homeless, especially the children affected by the current crisis in Ireland.

The message hit home as friends commented and shared the video helping to raise its profile.
