Local action prompts resurfacing work on Allenwood road

Residents of a badly damaged road in Allenwood are adopting a wait and see approach to promises by Kildare County Council that it will be re-surfaced on February 18.
The road, which serves the largely residential area known as Bluetown, has been deteriorating steadly for the past five years since sewage pipes were laid in the area.
There are more than 30 houses on the quiet roadway and locals have reported that cars have been damaged by driving on the road.
Local Wayne Price told the Leinster Leader that up until then, the road was fine.
However, after the sewage pipes were laid, the road was never properly resurfaced and has never recovered.
“About a year ago, it started to get really bad,” he explained. “And locals started to give out about it.”
Out of frustration last Friday, Mr. Price got in contact with local media about it and also set up a Facebook page complete with photographs of the road.
The page quickly attracted more than 160 ‘likes’, with non-locals quite surprised by the pock-marked nature of the road.
Yesterday morning, Monday, February 11, council staff filled in the holes with chippings, but Mr. Price wasn’t overly impressed.
“There’s rain forecast for Wednesday evening, and sure that will wash it all away.
“They’ve said they’ll be back on February 18 (next Monday) weather permitting, and they’ve asked us to be patient. But we’ve been patient long enough.
“I’ll be taking a day off work myself just to be sure what they do.”
