Kildare schools to be without traffic wardens Monday due to flu outbreak
Eight Kildare schools will be without their school traffic wardens on Monday morning, January 7, because of an outbreak of the flu virus.
Kildare County Council announced on Sunday night that an unprecedented number of school wardens in County Kildare are unable to attend for duty at schools across the county this week, as the flu virus has left many out on sick leave.
While relief wardens have been posted to exposed areas, up to eight schools in Newbridge, Maynooth, Celbridge and Leixlip are likely to be without a warden from tomorrow morning when students return to school.
The affected schools are:
NEWBRIDGE - Scoil Mhuire Jnr and Snr, Ballymany, Newbridge
MAYNOOTH - Presentation Girls Primary School, School Road, Maynooth
LEIXLIP - Scoil Ui Dhailig, Leixlip
LEIXLIP - San Carlos Junior and Senior, Captains Hill, Leixlip
LEIXLIP - Scoil Bhride, Green Lane, Leixlip
CELBRIDGE - Primrose Hill, Lucan Road, Celbridge
CELBRIDGE - Scoil na Mainstreach, CelbridgeL
CELBRIDGE - Scoil Bhride, Main Street, Celbridge.
Kildare County Council’s Road Safety Officer Declan Keogh urged parents and guardians to accompany their children to the affected schools to ensure they get across the road safety until traffic wardens resume their normal duties.
“Every effort is being made to ensure that as many crossings are covered, however, it is likely that some schools may have no warden,” said Mr Keogh.
