Kildare principals pleased with Leaving Cert results

School principals across county Kildare have expressed their satisfaction at this morning’s Leaving Certificate results.

It was the first year of Leaving Cert results at Kildare Town Community School, which was formed last year with the amalgamation of St Joseph’s Academy, the Presentation Secondary School and Kildare Vocational School. 91 students were due to collect their Leaving Cert results there this morning.

Vice-principal Aine Moran said that a number of students had achieved over 500 points.

She paid tribute to the sixth years, who had to cope with both the school amalgamation and a move to the new school building last November, during their most difficult school year.

In Naas, 65 students were due to receive their results at Piper’s Hill.

“I think the students will be very happy overall. The people who put in the work got the results they deserved,” said principal Colm O’Connor. He added that the results were “as good as previous years. Hopefully most people will get their points”.

Richard Daly, principal of Athy Community College, said he was “extremely pleased” with the students’ results, and it looked like many of them would be getting their first choice in third level courses. Some 55 students received their Leaving Cert results in Athy College this morning.

At Ardscoil na Trionoide, acting principal John McCormack said that the results were terrific and staff were “really, really happy” with them. Like many other principals, he was particularly pleased with the maths results this year.
