Maynooth DART extension delayed

Plan for the DART to arrive out to Maynooth.

Plans to electrify the rail line as far as Maynooth, and therefore extend the DART out to the Kildare town have been delayed.

The National Transport Authority has said that “electrification of the Maynooth Line forms elements of the overall DART expansion programme but that due to funding constraints over the last few years, only limited design work has been carried out on these projects to date.”

While they said that work may recommence on the design and planning of these projects during 2018 it is not possible to be definitive on the date of construction.

They said it would “likely to be 2021 before building works starts”.

Former Labour TD Emmet Stagg expressed his disappointment with the news and said the delay was “short-sighted”.
