UPDATED: Find out which Kildare roads are affected by flooding  today

Heavy overnight rain has hit Kildare hard with many roads across the middle and south of the county badly affected. 

Parts of the Dara Park Housing estate in Newbridge are also underwater and a homeowner in Walshestown Park has reported water is two inches away from entering his home.

There is heavy surface water on all routes around Clane especially the Ballinagappa Road, the Kilcock/Naas Rd (R407) and the Celbridge/Allenwood Rd (R403).

There are also reports of flooding on the Ballymore Eustace/Naas Rd (R411) at Punchestown Cross.

The Newtown Road out of Rathangan is almost impassable, and the Kildare road out of Rathangan as far as Allen cross has numerous floods. 

A tanker is at Allen Cross pumping water out. 

The Prosperous area and main street is also badly affected, particularly Killybegs and the canal area heading towards Osberstown.

The eastbound off-ramp closed at J7 Maynooth following flooding.

Part of the ring road leading to Millennium Park, Naas, has been closed because of flooding.

Castlewarden is very badly flooded. Three cars have been towed away in the last hour from the crossroads. 

The Newbridge to Kilmeague Road, and the Newbridge to Milltown Road, particularly Hawkfield is also affected. Robertstown is also experiencing problems with flooding.

Connell Drive and Beech Road in Newbridge is especially bad with flooding, just inches from some homes. 

There are also reports of flooding along parts of the Celbridge.Barberstown Rd (R403), Firmount Cross; Mucklon Road, Johnstownbridge; Kill to Straffan Road; Straffon to Sallins, Barberstown to Maynooth Road; Blackhill and Millenium road in Naas, Punchestown Cross; the road between Dagwelds and Coill Dubh; Rathangan to the Curragh, the road near the Round Towers pitch in Kildare town.

There is also flooding in Johnstown, Main St. Sallins, Sallins Road to Naas at Hennesseys/Applegreen; Killeenmore, Sallins to Bodenstown Cross and Sherlockstown Rd.

WATCH: Sewage floods rising in Newbridge estate after heavy rain

UPDATE: The road from Barberstown Roundabout to Celbridge is closed due to flooding. The road from Naas to Newbridge is closed near Tougher's Industrial Estate. The Left lane of the M4 Dublin/Sligo Rd westbound is impassable at J7 Maynooth. Take extreme care using the right lane. Avoid M4 near junction 7 and junction 8 if possible.
