The Christmas Illuminations in Newbridge were switched on on Friday afternoon and bring a beautiful warm winter glow to the dark evenings.

The committee would like to say a big thank you to all involved in the successful Winter Lights programme 2017. This year the lights will be extended further into the Linear Park and additional lighting is being added to the town.

"The response to to our fundraising from the local businesses has been as positive as ever," said Chairman of the Committee Joe Kelly.

Joe went on to thank his small dedicated committee of Morgan McCabe, Mary Doyle, Fiona O’Loughlin, Yvonne Foley and George Kennedy for all the hard work that goes into delivering the Winter Lights to Newbridge.

The committee is delighted that the Winter Lights have the desired effect of bringing some joy to the darkest evenings of the year.

Special mention goes to Niall Whyte, Alan Melia and their electrical team for their efficiency in putting up the lights again this year.

"The official launch of the Christmas lights where we switch on our two Christmas trees will take place on Sunday December 3 at 4.30pm. The Newbridge Fire Service will be bringing Santa to the Town Hall in Newbridge, where we will have some music, fun and surprises for the children," added Joe.

He said he would like to thank the business community for financial contributions and support of the Winter Lights Committee.

"Without their support we would only have achieved half of our goals to date. Thanks to their support, the support of Kildare County Council and in particular the finance and engineering departments we have had very successful beginnings as a committee. The good news is that this is year three of our plan and we have plans in place already to start phase four to extend our lighting further in winter 2018," he said.

"Keep an eye out on shop windows for our bright green stickers to check out which local business supported the Newbridge Christmas Lights Committee this year and please support them."
