Vikings filmed in Kildare town

The series Vikings wrapped filming a scene with actor Jonathan Rhys Myers in Kildare town at St Brigid’s Cathedral last Thursday.

The filming will comprise of only one scene for the next series of the hit show.

While the production manager was keeping mum about the storyline, he did say that mainly took place within the cathedral walls.

“It took the full day to film one scene,” said Will Gore, production manager.

“It was mainly interior shots, although there were some exterior shots as well.

“The location is ideal for Vikings and we really enjoyed spending time here.”

Public notice signs were erected around Market Square informing people about limited access to the famous 13th century landmark.

Locals could see the location trucks parked outside the cathedral which is usually a no parking zone.

However, it was business as usual in Kildare town otherwise on Thursday, with the market still going ahead outside in Market Square.

Usually filmed in Luggala and Ashford in Co Wicklow, Vikings is inspired by tales viking warriors.
