Kildare's worst accident blacksports

Dag Weld's Cross, near Prosperous

Two of the worst accident black spots in the Kildare Newbridge district were identified by council officials last week.

Cllr Sean Power (FF) asked how much it would cost to make them safer.

Area engineer Brigette Rae said Dag Weld's Cross and the Pollardstown/Rathbridge junction were considered to be accident black spots.

She said applications for a low cost safety improvement scheme will be submitted this month to the Department of Transport to tackle these areas.

Cllr Power asked how much this would cost. Ms Rae said she did not have the figures to hand for Dag Weld's, but estimated it would cost in the region of €50,000 for Pollardstown. C

llr Mark Lynch (SF) supported the motion and said this was a good way of channeling money into roads and junctions that needed it. Cllr Mark Stafford (FG) concurred.
