Concern for community as Johnstownbridge doctor retires

Dr Pierce Molony and Deputy James Lawless

A public meeting will take place on the future of Johnstownbridge Health Centre following the announcement of Dr Pierce Molony's retirement.

Dr Molony will retire at the end of August following 42 years service in Johnstownbridge as the local GP.

Kildare North TD James Lawless has called a public meeting, which will take place in the Hamlet Court Hotel on Wednesday August 31 at 8pm.

Following meetings with Dr Molony, the National Assoication of General Practitioners, and the HSE Deputy Lawless said: "It is important to come together as a community and address this issue. This is a wide reaching invite to anyone who will be affected by the retirement of Dr Molony. Johnstownbridge and the wider area will go from having 100 plus hours of GP services to 15 hours a week. Any family who lives in the area and attend the GP regularly will agree this is going to cause difficulties.

"At next Wednesday's meeting we will look to form a task force to address this issue and take suggestions on how best we can work together to help Johnstownbridge secure the Health Centre."
