Kildare County Council's offices at Aras Chill Dara
Kildare County Council spent over €3.2 million on consultants in two years, but refuses to give elected county councillors a detailed breakdown of the fees paid to individual firms.
It has emerged that it paid some €1.67m for roads and transport consultancy between January 2014 and December 2015, and over half a million euro on community and parks consultancy.
Fees were also paid for outside advice in planning, water and library services, and for housing and architectural services.
But citing commercial sensitivities, officials refused to provide last week’s Kildare County Council meeting with a full breakdown of fees paid to named companies which provided the services.
Sinn Féin councillor Thomas Redmond slammed the decision, calling the concerns “a smokescreen”.
