The worst rainfall in parts of England since records began has been recorded and there’s still no sign of Kildare County Council warning about water shortages or invoking hosepipe bans.

It’s been a pretty poor Summer.

The bad weather has made it more difficult to occupy children during the school break which has another few weeks to run and the void is partly filled by the plethora of summer camps.

There are summer camps covering sports such as canoeing, equestrian events and rugby as well as musical pursuits and dancing.

But one which took place in Naas was for the birds.

At least, one bird.

The participants in a camp at K Leisure were visited by a live bird of prey and it’s probably fair to say he ruffled a few feathers.

Falconer Anthony Francis from Allenwood brought his Harris Hawk to the summer camp to the delight of the children.

The Harris Hawk is a medium to large sized bird of prey found in the Americas but also in Western Europe and especially Britain.S
