EAMONN Callaghan is facing a major fitness battle as Kildare’s opening Leinster SFC clash with Offaly looms on 17 June, following a recurrrance of a groin problem picked up playing for Naas, against Sarsfields, in the SFC, writes TOMMY CALLAGHAN.

The Leinster Leader understands that a decision will probably be made within a week to either commence treatment that will hopefully, but not guarantee a recovery, or to undergo an operation that if undertaken would ensure he’d be back playing within six or seven weeks. However, the operation, a new but successful procedure, is believed, only available at the moment in the USA.

It is understood that all avenues are being looked at but that no decision has been taken as of now.

Meanwhile the Seanie Johnston saga looks set to rumble on. As we go to press Monday afternoon, Kevin’s have yet to receive any word from the CCCC despite the appeals hearing ruling in his favour.
