This year’s All-Ireland Hurling Final will be another momentous occasion for Maynooth GAA when the famous Kildare club embarks on its third annual Walk to Croker.

Members and non-members alike will travel to Croker by foot on Sunday morning, 9 September, retracing the steps of a famous group of Kildare men who followed the same route along the Royal Canal from Maynooth to Drumcondra to play their role in the 1916 Easter Rising.

Beginning at 7am from the square in Maynooth, where a commemorative plaque to the men of 1916 now stands, the walkers will travel the 14-mile route by foot, arriving into Drumcondra between 11am and 11.30am. Each walker is busy filling out their sponsorship cards at the moment, with many aiming to raise €100 or more. However, there is no minimum sponsorship target, and all sponsorship raised will be very welcome and greatly appreciated.

Food and water will be provided at regular intervals along the route while transport will be provided back to Maynooth after the Walk to Croker, where there will be a celebration in the GAA clubhouse.

If you are interested in participating in this fantastic event please email maynoothgaawalktocroker@gmail.com or call/text 085 749-9192 for a sponsorship card. Walk to Croker 2012 is open to anyone over 18, members and non-members alike.
