Kildare suffered their second successive defeat on the Allianz Football League on Sunday when going under to Monaghan in Clones.
Monaghan0-17
Kildare 0-12
In a game dominated throughout by Monaghan, Kildare never clicked into gear and were struggling from the moment David Hughes opened the home side’s account in the third minute. Three first half points from play by Neil McAdam and Paul Finlay left the home side leading 0-9 to 0-6 at the break, a first half that ended with up to 20 players getting involved in a skirmish.
On the resumption Brian Flanagan was shown a red card while Padraig O’Neill was shown yellow. Monaghan had yellows dished out to Dick Clerkin and Dessie Mone.
Although Kildare reduced the deficit early in the second half they never really threatened to overhaul their opponents who deservedly ran out comfortable winners 0-17 to 0-12.
