Confey and Ardclough step it up in SHC

In Group 1 (Round 3) of the SHC championship, champions Confey, badly in need of a win, won a ding dong battle to defeat Coill Dubh at Clane last evening (Thursday 1 August) by the minimum of margins.

In Group 1 (Round 3) of the SHC championship, champions Confey, badly in need of a win, won a ding dong battle to defeat Coill Dubh at Clane last evening (Thursday 1 August) by the minimum of margins.

Never more than a few points separating the sides, Confey led by one at the break but when Adrian McAndrew converted a penalty mid-way through the second half to give his side a two point lead, the champions looked in trouble. However they responded brilliantly and with Paul Divilly in great from hit back to record a vital win on a score line of Confey 0-14 Coill Dubh 1-10.

Meanwhile in Celbridge, Ardclough moved into top gear handing a bit of a hiding to Naas in the same group. On top from the word go, Ardclough, with Martin Fitzgerald leading the charge, defeated the Morgan Lalor managed county town side by all of twelve points on a score line of Ardclough 2-17 Naas 0-11. With just one point from two games, Naas look to be in some bother at this stage.
