A storming final quarter from Two Mile House secured their place in the Minor A Final at the expense of Naas after a thrilling game.
Trailing by five points with nineteen minutes on the clock, they showed great guile and determination to humble Naas to a two point defeat. It was Two Mile House who opened the scoring with a third minute point from Chris Julian to get his side off the mark. This was followed up with points from Matt Stapleton and Chris Healy to send Two Mile House into an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead. Two further frees from Julian put five between the sides as the game wore on. With twenty-three minutes on the clock it was Two Mile House who were causing all the problems as Naas struggled to work the ball out of their own half.
A point from Brian Byrne with six minutes remaining in the half had kick started the Naas attack into gear. Within sixty seconds of Byrne pointing John Joyce was to have the ball in the back of Richard Drumgoole Maguire’s net and put only one point between the sides.
Naas followed this up with an equaliser from the boot of Barry Murphy and within four minutes Naas had wiped out a lead that took Two Mile House twenty-two minutes to build. Two Mile House soon hit back through Healy to inch ahead once again. This lead was to be short lived as Naas again found an equaliser through a Dean Holmes pointed free. Just on the stroke of half time, it was Holmes again who rose the white flag, in an almost unbelievable turnaround. Without scoring for the opening twenty-three minutes Naas entered the half time break one point to the good. Soon after the restart Two Mile House rectified the situation with Julian pointing to cancel the Naas lead. After collecting a loose pass around the centre from Stapleton, Julian drove forward cutting infield from the stand side to point and again draw the sides level. A free from Karel N’tumba followed by a point from the boot of Paul McDermott put Naas two clear for the first time in the contest. Following a Two Mile House wide Naas’ Murphy set Holmes clear through and he finished past Maguire in the Two Mile House net. Naas were now five points clear. Within sixty seconds of this they would find their lead slashed as Julian cut in at the far left post to drive the ball low under the body of Keith Higgins to reduce the Naas lead to two. A Healy point followed by a second goal, this time Mark Sherry doing the honours, sending the ball high and over the head of Higgins, Two Mile House found themselves two points in front once again. Points from Joyce and McDermott had the game tied fir a fourth time with three minutes on the clock. As the game entered its final minute it was Dylan Walter with the point to edge Two Mile House ahead at the vital minute. An injury time point from Stapleton proved to be the insurance point for Two Mile House as they claimed victory over a dogged Naas side.
