DCU won a dramatic O’Byrne Cup final at Portlaoise on Friday night with a goal in time added by Philie McMahon to win on a scoreline of DCU 3-7 Kildare 1-12.

DCU led by 0-3 to 0-0 after 12 minutes but Kildare took control and hit nine points on the trot and led at the break by 0-9 to 0-4.

A second half goal by Eamonn Callaghan in the 43 minute seemed to wrap it up for Kildare but that was to be the final score for the Lilies.

DCU upped their game and a Dean Rock goal got them back into the game in the 52nd minute.

Now in full charge the Dublin students took over poured on the pressure to whittle the lead down to two when a final attack saw Jack Brady set up Philie McMahon who palmed the ball to the back of the Kildare net.

Final score DCU 3-7 Kildare 1-12.
