A young dance troupe from Kildare recently scooped first place at the Dance Supreme Street Dance Competition in Dublin.

The Vicky Barry U/10 dance crew, with members as young as six years of age, wiped the floor with the rest of the competitors at the competition which took place at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin on Sunday October 14.

The young dancers hail from Kildare town, Rathangan, Allen and Clane and 70 children in total took part in the various age categories. The children learn their moves at the Vicky Barry’s School of Dance.

Vicky explained the children had been practicing hard and the competitions take place every few months. Some of her crews have already won their categories but this was a new experience for the U/10s who came from the different classes in different towns.

“I am so proud of them because its their first time to dance together as a group. It was their first time competing and when they were warming up, you could see they were getting a bit competitive. They were absolutely brilliant,” she said.

Vicky explained how they hired a double decker bus so all the dancers could travel together. She said they had a great day.

Vicky’s new term begins from Tuesday 27 November/Saturday 1 December and she holds classes in Kildare town, Rathangan, Clane and Allen.
