NAAS man Michael Kennedy has been awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Panel of Chefs of Ireland at this year’s Catex competition held in the RDS, Dublin on February 21.
Michael where he competed against chefs from throughout Ireland. Now in it’s forty-eight year, Catex is the Irish catering industry’s annual showcase event.
Michael and his partner Rebecca, a native of France, live in Sallins and own and operate the Canal Walk cafe and restaurant in Sallins which they opened in 2010.
It serves a day-time and evening menu of Mediterranean and French cuisine and was described by critic Paolo Tullio as a hidden gem.
The is the first award won by the cafe.
Michael trained as a chef at Dublin’s College of Catering in Cathal Brugha Street. After working in France he returned to Ireland where he worked in the five star Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin as well as restaurants Fleva in Kilkenny and the Malt House in Galway, before opening his own establishment in Sallins.
The Canal Walk opens for breakfast and lunch from Wednesday to Sunday with a full evening menu from Thursday to Sunday.
