Kildare Town Running Group celebrated the end of its first year with a festive 12k of Christmas, which was held on December 15.
Instead of hitting local hostelries for the traditional ‘12 Pubs’ crawl, the fitness fans of KTRG laced up their runners for some outdoor fun.
“We organised the event to mark the end of the year in which KTRG was founded,” according to organiser Sean Keogh.
“In three months, we have 160 members and we brought a group of 15 ladies through the C25K (Couch to 5km) programme.
“We promote fitness in the community, we provide security for each other while out running and most importantly it’s free.”
Some 50 runners took part in the Christmas run, and there was both a 5km and 12km run to suit all levels of fitness.
Many of the runners wore Santa Hats and red tops to mark the occasion and the season.
KTRG will be starting another C25K group this January, and they aim to have another 20 people running 5km before the end of February to coincide with the Operation Transformation 5km run in the Phoenix Park.
