It was movie night with a difference at Newbridge Family Rescource Centre last week when the audience watched their own handiwork on the big screen.

Thanks to a ten week animation project funded by the VEC and faciltiated by local artist Lorraine Walsh the participants produced their own animated movie.

“It is the second time this ten week Animation project has been run in the Newbridge Family Resource Centre,” said Belinda Noone of Newbridge FRC.

“It was funded by the VEC and facilitated by local artist Lorraine Walsh. This year the theme was an animation expedition for children age 10 to 12 years. The participants enjoyed their creative journey exploring things about their local community in a fun way.”

The particpants learned digital camera and video skills as well as engaging with costume making, drawing and creating characters out of a range of different materials.

“Their growth in confidence was evident by the end of the project,” she added.

“The children’s animations were made into a short film which we screened last Friday in The Centre. The movie night was attended by the family and friends of the participants. The project and movie night were both a great success and hopefully it will run again next year.”
