There will be a hint of Eastern mystery at the Abu Dhabi Irish Guineas Festival, which kicks off the summer season of racing on the Curragh on May 26 and 27.

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is sponsoring Sunday’s Best Dressed Lady competition, in association with magazine Irish Tatler.

The judges, which will include television presenter Claire Byrne, bridal designer Patrick Casey and Irish Tatler editor Jessie Collins, will be on the lookout for a “Classic Icon” of racing style.

This ladies day fashion competition is the first of the flat racing season and is always a great day out for fashionistas everywhere.

The prize up for grabs for the Classic Icon is an amazing trip to Abu Dhabi with accommodation and return flights from the award winning Etihad Airways.

This year, the Curragh is encouraging ladies to pre-register for the competition at www.curragh.ie.

However it will still be possible to register on the race days with roaming ‘Fashion Police’ who will also be inviting fashionably dressed race goers to enter the competition.

The first 100 ladies who register for the Classic Icon competition will receive a fabulous goodie bag from Irish Tatler and will be invited into the Irish Tatler Style Lounge.

The whole weekend of top class racing will have a distinctly Arabic flavour with many elements of Emirati life and culture being showcased in an Arabian Village, which will feature a variety of activities to promote the attractions of Abu Dhabi.   There will also be a gourmet food area in the garden enclosure, a Festival Shopping Village and free children’s entertainment on Sunday.
