Monasterevin girl Sabena is Kildare’s Queen of the Land

Monasterevin Macra’s Sabena Power will be Kildare’s representative to take part in the 48th Queen of the Land Festival in Tullamore.

Monasterevin Macra’s Sabena Power will be Kildare’s representative to take part in the 48th Queen of the Land Festival in Tullamore.

Sabena is teaches sports therapy in Crumlin College and her hobbies include Gaelic Football, camogie, walking and basketball.

The festival, which is sponsored by FBD, will take place from November 9 to 11, when Offaly Macra na Feirme will welcome a host of young women to the Faithful County.

A record 27 Queen swill represent Macra na Feirme counties and regions throughout Irleand.

Over three event packed days, the contestants will be appraised by a judging panel who will take into account appearance, personality, energy, confidence, dress sense, rural knowledge and elocution to choose the contestant which best exudes the qualities of today’s modern rural woman.

The 2012 judging panel are: Amanda Brennan (Representative of FBD Insurance), Joe Healy (Livestock Editor with the Farming Independent and former Macra na Feirme President) and Bernie Woods (reigning 2011 Queen of the Land).

Comedia Karl Spain will perform at the official opening of the festival in the Bridge House Hotel on the Friday night.

The Queens will be interviewed in the Bridge House on Saturday morning, followed by an introduction to their escorts that afternoon in Hugh Lynch’s Bar.

MC Deric Hartigan will conduct onstage interviews at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Saturday night with music afterwards by Deuces Wild. The Gala Banquet and announcement and crowning of the Queen will take place on Sunday night at the Bridge House Hotel, with music by Mike Denver. Tickets €50.
