The popular 5k ‘Jog for Jockeys’ is back and it will be held this year on Sunday 29 July in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund at the Curragh Racecourse.
Actor and comedian Paddy Courtney has pledged to join Hector O’hEochagain and Nina Carberry at the 2012 ‘Jog for Jockeys’ run, which will start at 12 noon on Sunday 29 July.
This will be the second running of ‘Jog for Jockeys’ in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund. Newbridge’s Dr Adrian McGoldrick, Turf Club Senior Medical Officer described jockeys as the ‘bravest men and women in Irish sport’. Last year over 780 people took part and raised €25,000 for the Injured Jockeys Fund.
“Thank you to all who supported the first Jog for Jockeys,“ he said. “By doing so you supported the bravest men and women in Irish sport. Every time they mount a horse to provide you and I with the enjoyment - the buzz and thrill - we all get from racing, they are putting their bodies on the line.”
“What a stunning day on The Curragh, and I’m not just talking about the sunshine, there was great racing and of course Ladies Day,” said Paddy Courtney at the recent launch.
“I met one of my all time racing heroes, Johnny Murtagh, along with bunch of talented riders, young and not so young, who all helped to make some noise about the ‘Jog For Jockey’s this July. As a lifelong racing fanatic, I’m delighted to be able to help out the Irish Injured Jockey’s fund, by jogging a simple 5 km, and you can help too by logging onto www.jogforjockeys.ie for further details.”
