Organisers estimate that they’ve raised E20,000 for St Mary’s in Naas from the school’s annual pre-Punchestown fashion show.

The event has become as massive fundraiser for the secondary school and is instrumental in paying off the cost of its sports facilities, including the astro turf pitch used by its league-winning Leinster Schools Junior Hockey team.

260 people attended the glossy dinner and Parisian-style show at the Killashee House Hotel last Friday night, April 8.

‘The Apprentice’ boss and entrepreneur Jackie Lavin is one of the main organisers of the show, along with the committee of Anna McMahon, Aileen Morrin, Attracta Mongey, Marie O’Neill, Caroline O’Brien, Ber Low, Joan Delahunty, Edwina Kelly, Patricia Gallagher and Denise Murray, who are supported by an active group of parents, teachers and past-pupils.

Singer Rebecca Storm entertained the crowds, and money was also raised from a raffle on the night.

Models from the Andrea Roche Modelling Agency showcased Spring/Summer 2011 looks from local boutiques including Diamonds & Pearls (Edenderry), Nicola Ross (Naas), Divine (Maynooth), Brownes Menswear (Naas), Fabucci Shoes (Naas), Aria (Naas) and designers Deborah Veale, Lainey Keogh and Athgarvan-based Mary Grant.

“It was just a magic night in a beautiful venue,” said organiser Anna McMahon.

“It was a hugely successful night and everyone had an absolute ball.” She also thanked the local businesses who lent their support to the event through donating prizes.
