If you ever fancied your chances at a canter against the great Vintage Crop, then an event taking place on Father’s Day could be for you.

The first Kildare Thoroughbred Run, a 5k and 10k series, will take place on Sunday, June 15.

Routed through the National Stud, it will give joggers, runners and those taking it at full gallop a chance to run alongside the paddocks which are home to some of Ireland’s top breeding horses.

As it is Father’s Day, there is a ‘stallions and foals’ theme to the event, and runners can enter as father/daughter or father/son teams. There will be a special prize for the first such team home.

The races will start and finish at the Market Square in Kildare town.

The off for the 10k is at 10am, with the runners in the 5k going to post ten minutes afterwards.

There will also be lots of entertainment and family fun in the Square while the races are being run.

You can register online before the event at www.sportstiming.ie. On the day registration is open from 9am, at a cost of €20 per event.
