NUIM Student Union President, Ben Finnegan, told the monthly meeting of Maynooth Community Council that they were working with the Kildare Leader group on a number of projects.

One involves groups of students from different faculties visiting the TLC nursing home on the Straffan road.

University societies, including the chess and dramatic group, are spending a couple of hours each at the home during the week.

Music and dancing groups will also visit.

There will be also engagement by a group called the Tea Society, who are dedicated, not to the dreaded “drink,” but to the more sober activity of drinking and chatting over tea.

The students are also getting involved with So Sad, the Save Our Sons and Daughters group involved in issues around suicide and will be organisng a sports day for local primary school on 4 December.
