Kildare town has royal fever, after the visit of Queen Elizabeth II to the National Stud last week!

They’re now looking for their own queen - the Derby Festival Queen, that is.

The annual search is on for the local girl who will reign over this summer’s Derby Festival Parade - and who’ll represent the occasion at the Curragh Racecourse as well.

The gala selection night will be held at the Derby House Hotel in Kildare Town on June 17 next, to find the girl who will follow in the footsteps of last year’s Derby Festival Queen Kimberley Harrington.

Entrants must be aged between 18 and 27, and the organisers are looking for between 12 and 14 girls to take part.

There are great prizes for the winner, including E1,000 sponsored by Newbridge Silverware and a VIP day out at the races. The winner will also be automatically entered into next year’s Kildare Rose selection night.

Entry forms for The Festival Queen are now available. Those interested can contact organiser Ollie Kearns on 087 2519065.
