It will be remembered as the wedding event of the year and the racing community were out in force last week as local man, Ted Walsh Jnr, exchanged vows with leading jockey, Nina Carberry.

The two families have been great friends over the years through their involvement in racing and this was reflected in the fact that Nina’s bridal party included Ted’s sister, Katie Walsh, herself a top jockey.

Following their marriage at the Church in Rathoath, the couple and their guests adjourned to the Tayto Park for a lavish reception for the 220 plus wedding party. Not surprisingly the speeches were top drawer and none more so than the father of the groom, Ted Walsh Snr. He spoke the high regard which the family held the new bride and explained how his daughter Katie came home from racing one day and told Ted Jnr that he had better take care of Nina or else!

Best man was Ted Jnr’s brother, the famous Ruby Walsh, who carried out his duties with great skill and panache. In one of the lighter moments he told how he was being beaten up in the school playground til his younger brother came to his aid and chased the bully off!
