Drivers advised on Leixlip traffic lights practice
KILDARE County Council has been urged to highlight driver behaviour at the traffic lights at the bottom of Leixlip’s Captain Hill, following changes to the lights, writes Henry Bauress.
It has emerged that cars coming from the Dublin side of the town need to move forward at the lights in order to get the lights to indicate a right turn up Captain’s Hill.
At the Council Celbridge area committee meeting on 15 March, Cllr. Colm Purcell said the signals had been adjusted for four weeks now but that there had been “no great improvement” in the traffic movements.
He accepted time was needed for the changes to “bed in”.
KCC executive, Sonya Kavanagh, said she spoke to the engineer involved in re setting the lights.
He said that traffic coming from Dublin is used to having the lights change to allow them turn right.
But the system is changed now and drivers should come up to the stop line and get ready to turn when the main light is green.
The Council believes that when drivers get used to this practice, the traffic will move more efficiently in the area.
Cllr. Purcell said drivers would not know this if they are not told and requested media present, the two local newspapers, Leinster Leader and Liffey Champion, if they would highlight this.
Ms. Kavanagh said they could issue a press release on it.
