Alan Proctor, PRO reports “Castle Villa Under 15’s are the 2012 PJ Wallace Cup Champions after beating Athy Town last week in the final, played in Naas. Villa won 3-2 in a brilliant game of football, the goals coming from Kevin Mulpeter, Gary Allen and Mulpeter again, to let captain Aaron Murphy receive the trophy. In an excellent team performance, Villa’s best performers were 2 goal hero Mulpeter, Gary Allen and captain and true leader Aaron Murphy.

Huge congratulations must go to the management team of Mark Malone and Joe Keating who have put in huge work all year, and this is due reward to them also. Thanks also, to the large number of supporters who made the trip to cheer on the lads. The full squad was Reece Winders, Ben Kelly, Shane Fennell, Stefan Lawlor, Conan Hayes, Kevin Mulpeter, Gary Allen, Aaron Murphy(captain), Gavin Keating, Josh Malone, Eddie Hanlon, Richard Wall, James Doran, Jeff Seah, Michael Whelan, Ross Hart. Community services

Betty Byrne. PRO reminds us of the Community Services annual four monthly draw, the first of which will take place on tuesday June 19 in the Community Centre. Tickets cost €5 per month or €20 for the four months. There will be a prize for al paid members at the July meeting. All support very much appreciated.

Garden Competition

Tidy towns are holding the garden competition again this year. Entry forms can be picked up at the post office. Prizes awarded in the usual categories - Best large garden Best small garden - Best kept business premises and most improved area/housing estate. Entry fee is €5.00 and completed entry forms can be left in to the post office by June 8th. So get cracking with your window boxes and hanging baskets and support your local tidy towns.

Cul Camp 2012

Cul Camp 2012 in Castledermot GAA will be held from Monday 23rd - Friday 27th of July. There is a €5 reduction on last years price....€55 per child.€45 for 2nd child, and €40 for 3rd & subsequent children. History group

The Local History Group ‘s next meeting is on to-night Tuesday 29th of May in the Community Centre at 8pm, and will be on the excavations of Ardreigh, just outside Athy. All are welcome to attend and we hope you see you there.

Flower club

Rathvilly Garden and Flower Club will meet on to-morrow Wednesday 30th. May at 8pm in St Patrick’s Sports and Community Centre, Rathvilly, We look forward to having Mary Keenan owner of Gash Garden, Castletown, Laois who will give a talk and Slide Show on Trees. Mary is an Executive Director of The Tree Council of Ireland and a regular contributor to the Irish Garden Magazine, followed by the usual cup of tea and chat. all are very welcome. Admission €5.

GAA lotto

There was no winner in the lotto held on Tuesday 22nd May. The numbers drawn were 11, 13, 20 and 21. The winners of €50 were Sean Carroll, c/o Mickey Byrne, Seller - Mickey Byrne, Jim Dunne, Mill Road, Seller - Meggers, Sandra Moore, 1655 WPT, Seller - Har Wall and Fiona O ‘Reilly, c/o Har Wall, Seller - Har Wall. Next draw will take place on 29th May in the Castle Inn. Jackpot €7,200.

Mens football

The intermediate had a disappointing opening game to the 2012 championship losing out to Ballyteague on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-10. The sides were level at half time but five unanswered Ballyteague points straight after the break made it difficult to come back. Best for Castledermot were Gavin Farrell, Paddy Mahon and Emmet O’Keeffe. Scores came from Paddy Mahon 0-6 (6 f), Paddy Whelan 1-0, Emmet O’Keeffe 0-1, David Keating 0-1, Anto Lawler 0-1 and Paul Lawler 0-1.

The juniors drew with Sarsfields in a recent game 0-12 to 1-9. Scores came from M Farrell 0-4, A Murphy 0-3, S McDonald 0-2, M Kirwan, B Nolan and M Wall 0-1 each. Best for Castledermot on the night was Thomas Murphy. Well done to Eugene Mahon who was part of the Kildare minor team who beat Louth in the Leinster championship.

Ladies football

Hard luck to the u/14 girls who lost to Celbridge in last championship game. The girls have really improved since start of year. Final score was Castledermot 4-1 Celbridge 5-8. Scorers for Castledermot were Emma Wall 1-0, Amy Leigh 1-0, Kevina Nolan 1-0, Emma Kirwan 1-0, Nessa Dooley 0-1. Thanks to the parents who drove to all the games and to Rita Horan for organising the gear for all the matches and for all her support on the side line. Thanks to Debbie Fingleton who managed the team for the year.

The ladies team had a great win over Milltown in round 6 of the league. Final score was Castledermot 6-13 Milltown 2-10. Scorers for Castledermot were Shauna Doyle 2-4, Sinead Deering 2-1, Niamh Byrne 1-3, Michaela Nolan 0-4, Leah Byrne 1-0 and Jackie Whelan 0-1.

The U/10s girls team is now up and running. Training takes place on Thursdays 3-4. The girls took part in their first blitz in Ballykelly on the 19th where the girls played some great football. We look forward to seeing the girls improve their skills each week.

Underage training

The U/12 raining has moved to Monday nights at 7pm. U/11 training is on Wednesdays at 5.30pm. Under 10,9,8,7 and 6 training is on a Saturday morning at 10.30am.

Field day

The GAA are organising a monster field day this year on Sunday 15th July. Mark the date in your diary. It is the Sunday between the Leinster Hurling Final and the Leinster Football Final. Watch this space for the events.
