Cill Dara historical society’s annual outing takes in Howth Castle, Marino Casino and Trinity College. It will take place on Saturday, June 2. Open Day at Teach Dara
The new community and family centre at the old De La Salle Brothers House, Teach Dara, will host an open day on Thursday, May 31, from 10am to 9pm. All are welcome to come down and have a look at the new community facilities on offer.

Derby Festival Queen search
The search is on for the Kildare town Derby Festival Queen.
If you fancy reigning over this summer’s annual Derby Festival in June, which is held to coincide with the racing festival on the Curragh, now’s your chance to enter this year’s competition.
The organisers are looking for girls aged 18 to 26 to take part in the pageant, which will be held in the Derby House Hotel in Kildare town on June 22.
There is a prize of E1,000 cash for the winning lady, plus a VIP day out at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh, Newbridge Silverware and a direct entry into next year’s Kildare Rose competition.

Entrants must have a E150 sponsorship fee each, but assistance with finding a sponsor will be given by the organisers if needed.
Derby Parade entries
Entries are now being sought for the Kildare town Derby Festival Parade, which will take place on June 24. The closing date for advertisements for the festival programme is next Friday. For all inquiries, contact the Derby Festival office on 045 521000.
Derby photo competition
Do you have any scenic photographs of Kildare town? The Derby Festival Committee is running a competition to coincide with the Derby Festival. The best photographs will be featured on postcards. The group meet each Wednesday evening at 8.30pm in the Carmelite Hall.
Country Market
Kildare Country Market takes place on Thursdays from 10am to 12 midday, with a selection of home baking, jams, marmalade, ree range eggs, seasonal vegetables and locally produced crafts.
NCBI shop
The NCBI (National Council for the Blind in Ireland) shop is under new management. The new opening hours for the shop, located off Market Square, are 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday. All donations are gratefully received. The shop stocks ladies, gents and children’s wear, shoes and handbags, bric-a-brac, books and toys. Volunteers are also needed to help out in the shop. Old phones
Sensational Kids is asking for donations of old mobile phones to get an I Pad for use by the therapy team who work with children with special needs at the charity’s child development and learning centre. The charity is aiming to collect 165 old mobile phones which will enable them to obtain an I-Pad in exchange for recycling the phones.
