Residents unhappy with development proposals
Your Scribe has spoken with a number of Residents of St Patrick’s Park who tell us that the majority of the Residents would like a rethink of the proposed development at St Patrick’s Park. They point to the experience in Limerick where following the spending of huge sums of money and clearing of houses, the situation there has not improved significantly. The
Residents suggest that a more logical Plan would be the restoration and prettifying of derelict houses and a really serious landscaping job, followed by proper Management of the Estate, which would be a better use of public money. Perhaps it is time the Planners listened to the Residents and get this project right and not be adopting a ‘king’s new suit’ attitude.
The CORE Group have set up a Community Development Office in the Old Credit Union Building. This town centre office will act as an information and drop in point for local residents and Community Groups and will a facilities office to the Community Centre for weekly bookings etc. Two ladies from the new TUS scheme who will be with them for 1 year, have started work in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They have taken on several projects already that will be of great help to the community. They will be updating the website and will be posting all the local news articles etc. on ; www.rathangan.info and all social news, community centre events, etc on a new Facebook page, Rathangan Community Development. Coming soon, also will be a digital Notice Board where there will be a constant stream of information on a large TV screen in the town centre to keep all up to date and maybe a spot of advertising as well.
Later it is hoped to expand the CORE office services to include, training, special groups facility, classes, and an out-reach office for one of the Partnership projects for example. The CORE Group wish to open the office up to the whole community as a communications link to compliment the existing office at the library, the Catholic Parish offices and our three Schools.
