Big Jim’s Hoolie

This memorial fundraiser in aid of St Brigid’s Hospice on the Curragh will take place on July 14th and 15th.This promises to be a family fun weekend with many events being organised.Some of the events will be Tug of War, Vintage Rally, Wheel of Fortune, Crazy Football, Thorny Rose, Pool and Dart competitions and much more.

Writers Group

The newly formed writers group will meet in Meitheal on Saturday April 28th at 10.30 am. All welcome.

Childcare programme

The childminders advisory service H.S.E. will host a free introductory childcare programme in Quinns’s Lounge, Baltinglass on Saturday 21st and 28th April (2 day Course) 9.30am-4.30pm.This programme covers all aspects of setting up childminding from home including the voluntary notification system, tax exemption, and childminder’s grant scheme. General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the Forum will take place on April 17th 2012 at 8pm in Scoil Nioclais Naofa National School. All welcome to attend.

Trad Night

A national tour featuring renowned Kerryman Seamus Begley and Folk Musician of the year2012, Tim Edey will perform in Timmins Bar, Baltinglass on Saturday April 21st 2012. The tour is funded by the Arts Council and organised locally by West Wicklow Arts Network. Tickets €10. places limited and bookings to Conor at conor@artlands.ie 059-6473330. A night of music to raise the spirit and soothe the soul is guaranteed.

Golf Classic

On June 29th Rathsallagh Golf Club are hosting a major fundraiser for the Jonathan Swift school. Please support this fun golf event followed by evening meal and music. Further details later.

Auditions

Cap’n Andy’s “ Cotton Blossom” will be steaming into Dunlavin for the 30th Annual Dunlavin Festival of Arts this year. The musical Show Boat will be produced by Andrew Deering of Glad Productions, in association with The Milltown Singers and Dunlavin Festival of Arts.

Show Boat is a 1927 musical in two acts, with music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein 11. Based on Edna Ferber’s best selling novel of the same name, the musical follows the lives of the performers, stagehands and dock workers on the Cotton Blossom- a Mississippi River show boat – over a span of nearly fifty years. From 1880 to 1927. Its themes include racial prejudice and tragic, enduring love. The musical contributed such classic songs as Ol’ Man River , Make Believe and Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man to popular culture.

The auditions will take place on Thursday April 12th at 7pm in Scoil Nioclais Naofa, Dunlavin. All acting and singing types are welcome to fill the main parts and the chorus ( please note that those interested must be 16 and over to take part). Do come along and try out. Flower Club

The next meeting of the flower club will take place on April 11th at 8pm.in the Jonathan Swift Hall. This is a benefit night and the theme is “ From past to future” with Marie O’ Leary being the speaker. All are elcome.

Shave or Dye

Meitheal is hosting a shave or dye fundraiser on April 27th at 3pm in aid of cancer research. Anyone who sponsors Lisa can vote on the colour she dyes her hair, while Jeannie will go for the full shave. Please drop in and support this good cause.

Positive Parenting

Positive Parenting--- parenting from inside out. Indoor Bowling

Indoor Bowling now takes place on Monday nights in the Imaal Hall at 8pm, an activity aimed at the young at heart in the community. Do drop in and have a go, great social night.

Fetac Level 5

Enrolments are now being taken for a Fetac Level 5 in Business and office Administration for September 2012. The course is full time, however it may be possible to facilitate those applying who may wish to complete it in 2 years.Student Grants available. Short Story Competition

Entries are now being accepted for the Festival of Arts Annual Short Story competition. The closing date is April 14th

Midlands Support Group

Midlands Support Group-For Family and Friends Affected by Suicide. Our confidential support group, recently established in conjunction with HOPE(D) welcomes people from all areas in Kildare/ West Wicklow. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at Aras Building (beside Fas) Main Street Newbridge at 8pm.Our aim is to connect with people where members can share experiences, advice or just listen providing sympathetic understanding towards one another. For people who have lost a loved one to suicide and would like to connect with others who have gone through the same experience please feel free to come along. Used Postage Stamps

Please keep you used postage stamps from your Christmas cards for St Patrick’s Missions Kiltegan who can use them to fundraise. Used stamps can be dropped into the parish office anytime. Thanks to all who have donated stamps over the past years.

Bingo

Bingo takes place in the Imaal Hall every Saturday night at 9pm. The funds raised by the Bingo goes towards the upkeep of the Imaal Hall and well worth supporting.

Library Opening Hours

Dunlavin library opening hours are as follows Tuesday 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Wednesday 3pm – 5pm and 6.30 –8.30pm, Friday 11am –1pm and 3pm to 5pm, Saturday 11am -1pm. Closed on the Saturdays of Bank Holiday weekends.
