Raheens GAA Cycle Rally
Raheens football club are holding a cycle rally this Saturday the 9th June at 10.30am. Starting from Caragh NS heading to Athy then finishing in Kilkenny. The trip is over 80 km. At the moment there are over 100 cyclists taking part.
The events itself will involved over 170 people from Raheens club including cyclists, marshals and support vans.
The event is the brain child of Caragh local Shane Cooke, also former Laois county footballer. Shane took part in a similar event last year and brought the idea to the club. Along with his committee they hoped to have forty to fifty people doing the cycle but it mushroomed to over a hundred people very quickly.
The purpose of the event is a fundraiser but it will also bring together the people of the club new and old - a bonding weekend for everyone, with an over night stay in the Newpark hotel in Kilkenny, it should prove to be a good night.
The club has brand new pitches which must be paid for, a difficult task in the current economic times.
The committee would like to thank the following on behalf of Raheens: Sgt Mick Keavney Naas Garda Station, Danny Chandler Caragh NS, Paddy O’Brien of Red Cross, Joe and Edwina Murphy of Murphy’s Bar Blessington, Jim Brown Signbiz, Alan Jordan of Centra, Genoa Takeaway and Sean Cooke of Cooks Pub, Jim McGrath, Nollig Heavey Donnleys Fruit and Veg, White Mountain Water.
Most importantly they would like to thank the cyclists who have committed to the training and fundraising; also those helping out on the day, without them there would be no event. If you feel you want to help in any way please contact Mark on 087 6439307.
