Twinning Renewal Major Success

Last Monday 19 March a very weary group of visitors left Keadeen Hotel on their way back to Bad Lippspringe, having experienced a hectic but most enjoyable weekend in Newbridge, according to PRO Peter O’Neill. Their visit began on Friday 16 in Liffey Studios where they were given a demonstration on Irish coffee making by Albert Ostoff, and needless to say this went down a treat. On Friday night in McDonnell’s, Bad Lippspringe singer, Heike Bailey, put on a stunning performance and brought the house down, with many requests for a repeat performance. This was followed by a virtuoso show by local man ‘Bro’. Derek Conroy. Saturday, St. Patricks Day, most of the group attended the very special Irish Mass in Cill Mhuire, where they were made especially welcome by Fr. Ruairi. At the parade which followed, Twinning was one of the largest groups and they were delighted to welcome German Ambassador, Mr. Peter Zingraf, and two colleagues from the Foreign Office in Berlin to Newbridge. The highlight of the weekend was the unveiling of’ Bad Lippspringe Way’ starting from the bridge towards the strand. The park looked resplendent thanks to the sterling efforts of the Tidy Town’s Committee. The unveiling was carried out by the Ambassador assisted by Mayor Damian Molyneaux, Burgermeister Andreas Bee, Twinning Chairperson Claire Doyle, and DIPI chairperson Eddie Leigh. A reception followed in Ryston Social Club and Mr. Zingraf and his group were also taken on a visit to Newbridge Silverware. The Sunday activity was a little bit more relaxing with a visit to the excellent Military Museum in the Curragh, which was most informative. The farewell function took place in O’ Rourke’s with refreshments by Willie Crowley and music by Peter Nolan and friends and with assistance from Heike Bailey and Jocchen Raschke from Bad Lippspringe. Not to be outdone Murty Aspell also did local talent proud with his rousing performance on the ‘Murty Box’. The weekend finished with the usual committee meeting and indeed it can be announced now that the official visit next year will also be for St. Patrick’s weekend and it is anticipated that there will be an even bigger group travelling. The group managed to do a lot of shopping in Silverware, Whitewater and many other shops and establishments where they were made welcome. All in all a great success for Twinning and Newbridge and certainly the bar has been raised again for the whole concept of Twinning and the revenue it is producing annually. The committee would like to thank all those who helped to make all the visitors welcome over the weekend and attention is now turning to the trip to Bad Lippspringe from 12 to 16 October. There is still plenty of time to book for this trip which takes in their Stadfest. Flights are still lower than previous years so book now if you intend travelling.
