Cemetery Sunday

Cemetery Sunday will take place at Burgage Cemetery Blessington on Sunday May 20 weather permitting. Mass will be celebrated at 3 pm and that will be followed by the Blessington of all the graves in the Cemetery. Parishioners are advised to notify relatives and friends living outside the area in case they may wish to come along to the ceremonies.


The Annual General Meeting of the Co. Wicklow Network for Older People will be held in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Friday May 11th at 10.30am.This will be followed by a light lunch at 1pm after which will follow a Tea Dance which will conclude at 3.45pm.Music supplied by ‘The Wicklow Man’. Cost will be €5 per person all inclusive for the day payable in advance. Cheque/Draft/PO payable to County Wicklow Network for Older People. Speakers such as Catherine Rose CEO of Age and Opportunity and Fiona Gallagher Outreach Officer Older and Bolder will address the meeting after which will follow a light lunch and a Tea Dance. Booking in advance is essential so as to cater for the numbers planning to attend. Individuals or groups who represent the needs and views of older people in West Wicklow are also encouraged to join the Network.

As part of the Bealtaine Festival (celebrating creativity in older age) Blessington Library is delighted to play host to Carnation Theatre on Wednesday May 30 at 2.15pm.The latest sing-along offering is a hilarious murder mystery entitled “Death on the Tiles”. The audience will be transported to exotic Egypt under the shadows of the Pyramids. Visual and other sensual delights will tickle the imagination. They will get to feel the warm Sahara breeze on their skin, smell the aroma of spices from a far-away land, sing all the old favorites and interact with a whole host of farcical characters who find themselves in this location. Someone is a murderer, someone will be murdered. But who? Find out whodunit, why they dunit and how they dunit. The Audience decides.

Car boot sale

The monthly Car Boot Sale which is held at St. Kevin’s Community Centre Blessington is heading your way on Sunday May 13. It will be open from 8am and as usual there will be lots of different stalls selling a wide range of bargains. Those of you wishing to open up a stall can do so on the day. A car load will cost only €12 while a van load will cost only €17. Contact Ann tel. 087 2873036 or Des tel. 01-4582818. Every month the entry fee is donated to a worthy charity most of which are in the Blessington and surrounding area. So why not give the attic and garage a good clear out and come along on the day and open up a stall. You will be surprised at the money you can make and the extra euros will come in very handy. But make sure to get there early as it can be very full and if the weather is bad only the hall is used.
