The Alzheimers Annual Tea Party in Craddock House Nursing Home, Craddockstown Road (past Naas Hospital) will take place on Thursday, May 3, from 11am to 1pm. Everybody is very welcome.

Trocaire returns

Trocaire boxes can still be left in the Sacristy of the Churches or into the Parish Offices. Please do not leave them in the Church.

Well done to Brian Brady Theatre

Well done to the young members of Brian Brady Youth Theatre who presented Hairspray at the Moat Theatre last week. It’s wonderful to see so much confident young talent in our town.

Run Kildare

The Third Annual Run Kildare Event, comprising of a 10k, a half marathon and a full marathon will take place this year on Sunday, May 13. The race start time is 9am for the full marathon, the half marathon runners start at 11.45am and the 10K starts at 12.45pm. Naas Rfc Tag-Rugby

On Wednesday May 23, Naas RFC are commencing their annual Tag Rugby season once again with the Open Night / Try Tag for Free to launch the season with new sponsor Volkswagen. The event is kicking off at 7pm and all attending will have the chance to try tag rugby on-field and then kick back at the clubhouse, getting in the mood for the leagues ahead. Tag shorts will be available for purchase. All are very welcome, players, teams or spectators. Tag rugby is suitable for everyone over 16 and people of all abilities are welcome. All Teams will be graded to suit abilities and there will be three grades at Naas RFC this season; B (inexperienced), C (mid standard), D (experienced).

Competitive Nights will be on Wednesdays with the first competitive match nights commencing on Wednesday May 30, and continuing every Wednesday until Finals Night which will be moved from a Wednesday to Friday, July 27 2012. On all Tag Match nights there will be two rounds of matches, Round 1 will commence ant 7pm and Round 2 will commence 8.15pm unless otherwise stated.

Tag Referees

Would you like to become a TAG Referee? Peter Fitzgibbon from the IRFU will be holding a Referees and Captains workshop in the Naas clubhouse in Forenaughts on Tuesday May 22 at 7.30pm. It is really important that all referees intending to referee Tag at Naas this season attend.

For this season 2012, all referees new and experienced, young and a little more mature must register as a Tag referee online at http://www.irishrugby.ie/tagrugby/referees/register_to_ref.php. The workshop will focus on the Laws of the Game of Tag Rugby, the new Volkswagen Referees Tag Kit will also be issued at the workshops to those that are have registered and reregistered as referees for this Tag season. New Referees are also very welcome to register to come on board.

May events at the library

Naas Community Library is holding several events to mark Bealtaine 2012. Bealtaine is an annual national festival that celebrates creativity as we age.

Free event for adults include Plaster Casting Workshop on Wednesday May 2, 9.30am to 12.30pm. This is a fun, hands-on workshop in which participants create their own sculptures from clay moulds.

The over 50s dance morning is on Tuesday May 8, from 10.30am to 12.30pm. This is basically a dance workshop for people over 50 years in which exercises can be done either seated or standing. All abilities are welcome.

A Card Making Workshop takes place on Tuesday May 15 from 10am to 12.30pm. In this workshop participants learn how to make cards with gift pouches.

Other events include Circus presented by Carnation Theatre on Tuesday May 15 from 2 to 3. This promises a lively, interactive performance in which the Circus comes to town!

There is also a Felt Workshop taking place at the library on Wednesday May 16 from 10am to 1pm. Participants use felt to decorate craft materials such as photo albums or notebooks.

The popular ‘Golden Age of Italian Opera’ lecture series continues on May 10 and 17. This free lecture series explores Italian Opera from Rossini to Puccini.

There will also be a ‘Wood of Life’ Exhibition In Naas Community Library throughout the month of May 2012.

Pilates six weeks course costing E75 is starting on Wednesday May 16.

Visiting the elderly

St Marie’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul, Naas are a visitation group who visit the elderly in their home. If you would like a short visit you can contact the conference at 087 216 6779 between 6pm and 8pm.

Music Festival

Naas Music Festival takes place at the Naas Canal Harbour starting at 1pm on May 12. The event features performances from Elliot Canavan Doyle, The Crossfire, Shadowplay, Amazing Apples, The Big Dog Band, The Bailout and special guests. Admission is free, and you can check for updates on Facebook.

Jerusalem at the Moat Theatre

A Silken Thomas Players production Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth, takes to the stage at the Moat Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday May 1 and 2, at 8 pm. Based in Kildare town, the Silken Thomas Players have qualified for the 6th RTE All Ireland Finals with this production with several acting, directing and technical awards to boot!

This classic English play is written with an Irish style play and is a wonderful, rollicking dark balding comedy. Get your ticket from the Box Office, online, or telephone 045 883030.

Naas Utd FC lotto

The numbers drawn in the Naas United FC lotto draw on April 22 were 4, 9, 12 and 18. There was no jackpot winner. The four winners of E25 were Arthur Lackey, Joanna Butler, Nugget Dignam and Paddy Byrne. The jackpot up for grabs at the next draw is E2,500. Draw takes place every Sunday night at the Town House Hotel after 10pm.

Teenage disco

CineBar, adjacent to Swan Dowlings, Newbridge Road, will host a disco for teenagers on Friday May 4 from 8 - 11pm. Admission is E10 with strict supervision.

Splotto

In the Splotto/Ballycane Celtic lotto draw on April 15, the numbers drawn were 8, 14, 27 and 28. Again there was no winner and the next jackpot still stands at E6,000.

Naas GAA Club briefs

A huge thank you to all those who attended Naas GAA Club’s 125th Anniversary Celebrations in Killashee on Friday April 20. A fantastic night was had and great appreciation must go to all of sponsors and supporters who made the night possible.

Well done to the Senior footballers who have now made it 4 wins out of

4 in the senior league with a great victory over Maynooth.

The senior hurlers had a strong win over Confey in round 3 of the league.

The U16 footballers had a great win in the league semi final and will now take on Sarsfields in the final on May 7.

The ladies footballers have continued their winning ways in the league with a good victory over Sarsfields.

Naas GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Naas GAA lotto on 12 April were 5, 10, 24 and 26. There was no winner.There was no winner of the lotto jackpot on the 26th April. The numbers drawn were 7, 12, 22 and 27. Next week’s jackpot is E1,450.

Death

The death occurred on Wednesday, April 25, of Maura Reddan, (nee

Malone) of Clare and Patrician Avenue, Kilcullen Road, Naas, peacefully at Curragh Lawns Nursing Home. Wife of the late Martin.

Deeply regretted by her daughters Bernadette and Eileen, sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Removal was on Friday evening to the Church of Our Lady and St. David with funeral mass on Saturday morning to Mullagh Cemetery, Co. Clare.

May she rest in peace.

Whist takes place every Sunday night in the Care of the Aged Centre at 9pm for people of all ages. Please support.

Nas na Ri singers

The Nas na Ri singers are holding a special concert to mark 40 years of this talented group on Sunday, May 6. The gala concert will take place at Killashee House Hotel and features former Eurovision winners Secret Garden as special guests. The compere for the night will be actor Tom Hickey. Vladimir’s Classical Twist

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Look out Kids! Much loved Disney characters from four popular TV shows appear together live on stage in an unforgettable celebration of the Magic that is Disney. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse With Special Guests, comes to the Moat Theatre, Naas on Sunday, May 6. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Tribute brings audiences into the colorful worlds of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Iggle Piggle, Upsy Daisy, Dora the Explorer, Boots the Monkey and Peppa Pig. Mickey Mouse hosts the show and wants to sing but when everyone gets the hiccups’ they have to find ways of curing them. With participation from the audience and help from Mickey’s friends on stage, they all soon get there singing voices back and everyone joins in a sing song with all the gang. Featuring fantastic costumes and colorful lighting, it will be an experience for all the family to remember and cherish.
