Edenderry Girl chosen as Melbourne Rose
The people of Edenderry will be supporting 25 Year old Claire Lynch nee McLoughlin from Edenderry is this year’s Melbourne Rose in The Rose of Tralee Contest.
Claire is well-known in Edenderry and the surrounding area for her involvement with the local Civil Defence.
Claire, who is an Occupational Therapist, has been working in Melbourne for the past three and half years and is a daughter of Bernie McLoughlin, Edenderry.
It’s ten years since Melbourne has entered into the Rose of Tralee and everyone in Edenderry will be hoping that Claire will be successful in taking the much sought after title.
Claire will be flying in to Dublin on Wednesday, 30th May and will be taking part in the International selection in Portlaoise on Friday, 1st June.
There are a total of eight International Roses and two girls will be selected in Portlaoise to go through to the finals in Tralee.
Everyone in Edenderry will be shouting for Claire and hoping she gets to wear the coveted crown and become the first Edenderry born girl to win the Rose of Tralee for 2012.
First Communion for Scoil Bhride and Gaelscoil will take place on Saturday, 19th May.
First Communion for the Boys National School and St. Mary’s Girls Primary Schools will take place on Saturday, 26th May.
Amen Support Group looking for volunteers in Marathon

Amen Support Services Ltd. are looking for volunteers to run, walk or crawl in the Ladies Flora Mini-Marathon on June 4th in Dublin to raise much needed funds to provide services for male victims of domestic abuse. Join the Scouts
The Edenderry Scouts and Cubs Groups are currently looking for Boys and Girls to join. The age group for the Cubs is 9 – 11 years and the Scouts is 12 – 15 years.
The Groups meet on a weekly basis at the Parish Centre. The times are; Cubs 6.30pm – 7.30pm; Scouts 7.45pm – 9pm.

Football Training for young ladies
Indoor Football Training for all girls of 12 years of age and under takes place at St. Mary’s Secondary School Sports Hall on Friday evenings. All young girls are encouraged to come along for training in a safe, clean environment and also getting some exercise at the same time.
The times are, Girls under 12, 5pm – 6pm; Under 10’s & u.8’s, 6pm – 7pm

Pilgrimage to Italy
The Annual St. Padre Pio Pilgrimage to Italy takes place this year from Friday, 20th – Friday, 27th July. The all-in cost is €859 per person sharing.

Learn to play a Musical Instrument
Traditional Music Classes take place at the Boys National School on Tuesdays. A wide range of musical instruments are catered for in the classes including Tin Whistle, Flute, Accordion, Mandolin, Banjo, Fiddle and Concertina. Set Dancing Classes take place on Thursdays.
