Tom and Marie Tobin Remembered

Tom and Marie Tobin Remembered

Allenwood GFC was the location for a special ceremony on Thursday 17th May, when St. Mary’s Allen Community Games and Athletic Club honoured the late Tom and Marie Tobin. Firstly, the club have provided a grant to each of the five national schools in the Allen parish, to support the various sporting and cultural events within their schools. Following this, Sean Byrne welcomed Fr. Eddie Moore to say a few words, in which he described Tom and Marie as “exceptional supporters of the Parish.” Anita Tobin, Tom and Marie’s daughter, alongside Tom’s brother Martin then unveiled a commemorative plaque which will take pride of place in the Allenwood GFC bar. A perpetual trophy was also unveiled, on offer for a youth mixed relay competition to be held later in the year. Tom and Marie dedicated a number of years to working with young people in the Allen Parish, encouraging them to participate at many levels. Those in attendance were then invited to enjoy the refreshments on offer, and share stories of the wonderful influence the Tobin family have been in the Allen parish. A very special tribute indeed.

Award Winners

Sinéad, Lucy and Donna from Early Days Montessori Playgroup, Kilmeague Village, Naas, recently attended the Early Childhood Ireland Conference in Dublin where they were presented with an award in the “Learning Stories” category. Learning Stories Awards were launched to capture work on quality in early childhood care and education services. These awards focus on the teaching and learning through play in services. The stories are wonderful examples of children learning through play, supported by skilled and highly motivated practitioners. The awards were presented by Mary Doyle, Director General of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.

Much praise and thanks must go to the 30 wonderful children whose emerging interests and co-operation contributed to the success of the story.
