This coming Thursday, October 18 is the closing date for expressions of interest for the contract to complete the works on the new Ardclough National School.

The school was expected to open at the start of September but was found to be incomplete and the contract with the original builder was terminated.

Once Thursday’s deadline passes, those interested in tendering will be invited to do so by November 12.

It is hoped that the successful contractor will be on site before Christmas and that the works are expected to take between 6 to 8 weeks to complete.
The original cost of the contract for the new school was €2.7 million. Although mainly complete by September, it was discovered that it would not pass Fire Safety or Disability Access inspections.

According to local TD Emmet Stagg, there are insufficient emergency exits in place, the lift in the school does not work and there remain concerns about whether appropriate fire restraints were included in the walls of the new school.
