Young Naas hurlers celebrate with All Ireland hero

A number of Naas GAA club underage teams who won competitions during 2011 recently received their awards at a specially organised event attended by Kilkenny All-Ireland hurler Jackie Tyrrell.

A number of Naas GAA club underage teams who won competitions during 2011 recently received their awards at a specially organised event attended by Kilkenny All-Ireland hurler Jackie Tyrrell.

A total of ten teams ranging in age from under 16 down to under 7 fall within the compass of the club’s juvenile hurling section and Naas is among the most successful hurling clubs within County Kildare and beyond.

Underage teams regularly compete successfully against clubs from stronger hurling counties like Tipperary, Kilkenny and Dublin.

The under 7 team had a trip to Moycarkey-Borris and won 8 of 9 games in the North Kildare autumn league while the under 8 side were undefeated in the league.

The under9s and under 10s won blitz competitions in Dublin and Limerick respectively while the under 11 team won a tournament hosted by James Stephens in Kilkenny.

The under 12s were successful in a Leinster tournament while the under13s won the North Kildare autumn league.

The under 14s defeated Leixlip to win the league title, having lost the Feile final to the same outfit and the under15 side won both league and championships in Division 2.

The under 16 side won league and championship titles.
