PUBLIC MEETING TONIGHT TUESDAY
Castledermot has recently become a member of the Irish Walled Town Network and a Heritage Council grant is funding a report on the Conservation and Interpretation of the medieval core of the town. This will include suggestions about how we can present our rich and interesting heritage to the public and to tourists.
A heritage walk around part of the town walls is included in this. Your location on the town wall circuit means that we would particularly value your views on proposed routes and how they might impact on you or your property.
The conservation architects from Howley Hayes & Associates will hold a Public Consultation Meeting on tonight Tuesday 20th November at 7pm in the Community Centre to present a draft plan. This is an opportunity to discuss their suggestions and highlight any problems.
If you cannot make it to the Public Consultation Meeting, please either send someone on your behalf or contact us beforehand to let us know of any concerns you might have. Contact Colm Heslin 085 8134997.
STRICTLY COME DANCING
The time has come, the shoes are shining, the music is primed and the routines have been rehearsed. After hundreds of hours of trodden toes, ankles in agony and gyrating grooves, the dancers are ready - but they need an audience.
The dancers have focused on the 24th November in the Dolmen for weeks on end, but they are also focused on the future that an all-weather pitch in Scoil Diarmada will bring.
Many people have already bought their tickets for the event but if you are still considering buying a ticket we ask you to be part of the united community prioritising the future welfare of the children and wider community of Castledermot.
The dancers and organisers would like to thank, before the event, the choreographer Helen Dunne, of Castledermot Academy of Dance & Portlaoise Academy of Dance. A big thank you also to Kate, Bethany, Eoghan and Joe Farrell who gave up freely of their time to share their expertise with the stars of the night. Don’t miss the event of 2012 for Castledermot.
For tickets - the Post Office, O’Gorman’s Farm Shop, Scoil Diarmada and any committee member or direct from Sharon Hennessy 086-2523268 or Siobhan Phelan 087-9677469.
LOCAL HISTORY GROUP
Kevin Berney PRO reminds us “that on Tuesday the 27th of November at the Memories and Memorabilia night, The Castledermot Local History Group will be revealing the history information panels which our members have prepared for the Teach Diarmada project. A major thank you goes to those who worked tirelessly on the project either gathering information, writing, proof-reading and printing the panels. Also thank you to The Heritage Council for their support and funding for our project. This will be a great opportunity of the community to see the history and stories from around the town and the town-lands. Also on the night there will be a raffle and a book stall where a bargain or that early Christmas present can be found! Thank you to Kay Byrne for her support during 2012.
