Clean your bird feeders

Trichomaniasis, a disease that affects chaffinches, green finches and house sparrows and has led to huge numbers of these birds being destroyed. The spread of this disease has been linked to improper maintenance of bird feeders and baths.

The best advise is to regularly clean bird feeders and baths and le them air dry as the protozoam (parasite organisms) responsible for the disease, survive for only a short time away from moist conditions. Bird feeders should be moved occasionally to prevent the build up of waste, which

may harbour the disease.
